Every four years, we welcome a worldwide sports event that unifies people everywhere, the Summer Olympics. The Summer Olympics is the perfect event to show off all our talents, specifically athletic talent. And for clothing designers, it’s a chance to showcase their talents too. During the opening ceremony, all eyes will be on the outfits the teams are collectively wearing. This year, Team USA’s uniform was designed by Ralph Lauren. If you haven’t checked them out, you’ll be able to see the debut tonight.
For the actual games, we are used to seeing big fashion houses such as Nike, Speedo, Under Armor and Adidas. This year, the rowing team will be sporting a less familiar name, a company called BoatHouse Sports. Boathouse Sports will be providing the US rowing team with high tech gear that no other team will probably have.
BoatHouse is dedicated to providing the team with a second skin through their rowing uniform. How do they do this you ask? Well, they start off by meeting the team and asks them what it is they want the suit to look like. With their feedback in mind the BoatHouse team develops a suit that will withstand the environment that they’ll be in. Given that the Olympics are taking place in Brazil, a beautiful yet hot and humid country, the uniforms protect the rowers from the harmful UV rays. A long sleeve to protect them from mosquitoes and they also contain an antimicrobial layer.
There you have a high tech, innovative uniform that will protect the team from the environments that the rowers will face while competing in the Olympics. What are you most looking forward to during the summer Olympics?
