Snapchat has gone through many changes. What started as a social media app that was meant to send temporary pictures has now turned into an application like no other. You can get the daily scoop on your friend’s life through stories, pay someone through Snapcash, post memories that vanish in 24 hours, use different filters, and advertise through Snapchat. Advertising has become a lucrative Snapchat feature and companies have paid big amounts to have an ad placement, filter or geo lenses on Snapchat.
The Geo Lenses were an instant hit. I’ve been hooked on them since the beginning. In October 2014, Snapchat announced that they would be introducing advertisements into their platform. But they would not interfere with our snaps or chats. Sounds fair, right? Since then, I’ve seen so many Smarketing Advertisements of different brands and movies and I’ve gone as far as to buy some of the products… *cough* L’Oréal Clay Mask Geo Lenses*.
So how much does it take to advertise through Snapchat? The price tag to advertise through Snapchat is around $300,000 and $750,000 per day! Sounds insane, right? But people are paying the price tag and I guess you could say it’s working because people are buying the product or watching the movie that’s being advertised.
Companies understand that the lenses will leave an impact on the user, hence me buying the L’Oréal Clay Mask because of the lenses featuring it on Snap. There were also the famous taco bell snap lenses that was very fun to use.
For those of us that can’t afford to pay for a geo lenses, we can pay for a personalized geofilter. Either way snapchat is doing everything to appeal to both its daily users and big companies.
