The Big Ten Championship Game is just around the corner, one of intercollegiate sports’ most successful undertaking. Starting on Saturday the championship game between Penn State No.8 and Wisconsin No.6 will be on FOX at 8:17pm ET to see who will be crowned in the Big Ten title game.
There will be something new happening during the game and all of you will be able to see what is going on in the field. Referees will be wearing hats with built in GoPros during the game this Saturday. This new viewing experience is a project deal between FOX Sports Lab and GoPro. The camera hats will be capturing footage and will be shown on FOX during the broadcast that will be live streaming online through FOX Sports’ social media accounts. The hat cameras will be able to provide a close up view that we’ve never seen before during football games.
Although this will not be the first attempt to use a GoPro during major league sports, I look forward to watching this happen live. Almost like a firsthand experience being at the game. It might just be an experience like playing a game of Madden on an Xbox. These cameras could also help catch missed calls during challenges and replays during a game, which is a very hot topic in the NFL. Check out the trial footage that was taken this past weekend and you’ll see this might be the next big thing in the future of watching professional sports.
