The Fifth Element is a futuristic movie where we have flying cars and a never ending war with aliens. That’s how I pictured the future. Yet here we are still without flying cars and debating whether aliens do exist. The most futuristic thing we have is pizza vending machines and Teslas. Airbus wants to change that. Airbus, a European aerospace company that designs and builds aircrafts, wants to create autonomous flying taxis.
It is no secret that we have congestion and pollution problems all over the world. To ease congestion, Airbus wants to provide these air taxis to cities where congestion is a major problem. They want to have a prototype by next year, but we probably won’t be able to take a flying taxi until at least 2021.
This project is taking place in our backyard, the great Silicon Valley, where all successful experiments seem to regularly take place.
Having an autonomous flying taxi could change the way we do transport things, this could help transport crucial supplies to people in need and get you to places much faster. Would you get on a flying taxi and most importantly would you feel safe?
