21st Century Jacket
Google IO took place this week and with that, we had the chance to learn about all the cool new tech Google has in store for us. Google is an innovative company, always looking out to offer the newest and best technology. This morning, they introduced their newest venture, Project Jacquard. What started in 2015 is finally coming to fruition. Google teamed up with Levi’s to create a jacket for the commuter community. Specifically, this jacket is for people who bike to get to their next destination.
This jacket was designed to look as normal as possible because let’s face it, we do not want to wear clothing that looks out of the ordinary. When we think about wearable technology, we think bracelets that let us connect to our phones or maybe cordless headphones. It is tough to integrate technology into a piece of clothing because there is a slight probability that it will end up looking like something out of a futuristic movie. Google changed all that by creating a denim jacket that looks nothing like a piece of technology. The only thing that shouts technology from this jacket is a blackstrap located on the cuff of its sleeve.
This normal denim jacket contains conductive yarn that will allow touch interactivity users to tap, swipe, or hold on the left cuff of the sleeve to fulfill the tasks. You will be able to change music tracks, answer or block caps, and access navigation information. There will also be an accompanying app that will allow you to program what you want to control through the sleeve of the denim jacket.
This jacket is expected to be released in 2017. If you want to check out the video of how it works you can find it below.
