Have you guys noticed Google’s driverless cars roaming the streets of California, Texas, Washington and Arizona. So many people think this is frightening. Well brace yourself for what I am going to tell you next. Are you ready for it? Well here’s a question for all of you. What do you guys think about a robot taking control of the wheel of a big rig? Yes, you read that correctly some big rigs are going be driverless in the streets and highways.
Anthony Levandowski a robot- loving engineer who helped steer Google’s self-driving technology, is convinced autonomous big rigs will be the next big thing on the road to a safer transportation system. Levandowski left Google earlier this year to pursue his vision at Otto, a San Francisco startup that he co-founded with two other former Google employees, Lior Ron and Don Burnette, and another robotics expert, Claire Delaunay. Their goal is to make trucks drive as humanly as possible, but with the reliability of machines.
Although the company completed its first extended test of its system on public highways in Nevada during the past weekend. These trucks will continue to be tested to help fine-tune the technology. Technology is revolutionizing at an execrated pace and a timetable for completing these tests is still in the process but Otto hopes to retrofit all trucks on the nation’s roads. That would encompass more than 4.7 million trucks, according to the American Trucking Associations.
